Blown fiberglass on an attic floor, the install used for Hollywood top-ups

Attic insulation in Hollywood

East of I-95 the houses are older and the hatches are tight. Hollywood Lakes and the beach side are short attics. West of I-95, Hollywood Hills is the wider ranch.

Blown-in insulation in Hollywood

Dry fill is sealed and topped to R-38. Wet fill and nests come out first. There is no Hollywood pin. The Broward shop is 681 SW 16th Ter, Pompano Beach. The Boca shop is 4263 NW 1st Ave.

The inch math and the leaks a hose will not close are in how a South Florida attic works. The next city page is blown-in insulation in Pembroke Pines.

Spray foam insulation in Hollywood

Spray foam in Hollywood is a roof-deck job. It is not a substitute for blown-in on a vented attic floor.

East Hollywood and west Hollywood are not the same attic

33019 and 33020 are the beach and the downtown side, including Young Circle and Liberia. The houses are older concrete-block homes. The hatch is often a small scuttle in a closet or a garage. Standing room is not the point. The point is whether the bays can take baffles and whether the lid is sound.

Hollywood Lakes is the older section with short attic walks and barrel tile or a flat-ish roof over parts of the house. A flat roof with no cavity is not a blown-in job. A vented ceiling is.

33021 is Hollywood Hills, west of I-95. Those are the wider single-story attics, original batts, and a longer walk from the hatch to the eave. Emerald Hills is the golf section in the same band. The depth at the eave is usually thinner than the pile by the hatch.

33023 and 33024 run into Pembroke Pines. The city line is not obvious from the street. The ZIP on the tax bill decides which page the house belongs on. A condo in either ZIP with no attic is not booked as a blow.

The shop is not in Hollywood

There is no Cardinal pin in Hollywood. The closest shop we actually have in Broward is 681 SW 16th Ter, Pompano Beach, FL 33069. The original shop is 4263 NW 1st Ave, Boca Raton, FL 33431. The phone for both is (561) 654-7698.

A near-me search typed in Hollywood starts closer to shops that are already standing there. This page names the attics. It does not invent a Hollywood address, and it does not move either pin south.

The work, when the house has a vented attic, is the same standard. Seal the top plates, the hatch, the fans, and the cans. Baffles at the soffit. Blow to an even R-38. Florida's code floor in this climate is R-30. Four inches of settled fiberglass is about R-9, not the number printed on the bag when it was new.

Foam is only the roof deck that should be inside the house, usually a bonus room. The open Hollywood attic stays blown-in. The Pembroke Pines page is the next city west.

Neighborhoods

If your street is not named, call. We will say whether the attic is in range. A condo with no attic is not this job.

Hollywood questions

Who does blown-in insulation in Hollywood, Florida?

Cardinal Insulation. There is no Hollywood street address and no Hollywood pin. The Broward shop is 681 SW 16th Ter, Pompano Beach, FL 33069. The Boca shop is 4263 NW 1st Ave. Call (561) 654-7698.

Is a Hollywood Beach condo a blown-in job?

Only if it has a vented attic over a flat ceiling. A stack with no scuttle is not. Hollywood Hills and the ranches west of I-95 are the usual blown-in attics.

Measured against the Florida code

The attic numbers, not a brochure

The 2023 Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation, Table R402.1.2 sets a climate zone 1 ceiling at R-30 and a climate zone 2 ceiling at R-38. Cardinal installs R-38 and checks the inches. A Florida page that lists R-49 to R-60, or R-3.2 to R-3.8 per inch for both fiberglass and cellulose, is using a different book. Table R402.4.1.1 says air-permeable insulation shall not be used as the air seal.

Quotes are prepared by Russell Y, a building scientist, BPI certified, and certified to perform blower door testing. When the door is run, the result is air changes per hour at 50 pascals, the method in R402.4.1.2. That section limits new houses in climate zones 1 and 2 to 7 ACH50. An insulation job on an existing house is not automatically that test. We report the number only when we measured it.

The attics on this page

East of I-95, 33019 and 33020, the beach, Young Circle, Liberia, and Hollywood Lakes are older block houses and short attics. A flat roof with no cavity is not a blown-in job. A stack of condos with no scuttle is not either.

33021 is Hollywood Hills and Emerald Hills, west of I-95. Those are the wider ranch attics, original batts, and a longer walk from the hatch to the eave. 33023 and 33024 run into Pembroke Pines. The tax bill decides the city.

The code in Hollywood

Hollywood is in Broward County. Table R301.1 lists Broward as climate zone 1A. The zone 1 ceiling minimum is R-30. Hollywood does not publish a separate insulation number.

Broward County is in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, with Miami-Dade. The whole county is in it, not just the beach. Chapter 44 of the 2023 Florida Building Code, Residential, sends roof assemblies, wall coverings, and windows to the stricter Building-code chapters. Roofing and openings used there need approval for HVHZ use, a Miami-Dade or Broward Notice of Acceptance or a Florida Product Approval that includes the HVHZ. That is a roof and window rule. It does not change the attic ceiling from R-30, and a blown-in job does not carry a roof product approval. Section R806.2 of the 2023 Florida Building Code, Residential, sets the net free vent area at 1/150 of the attic. The exception is 1/300 only when 40 to 50 percent of that area is within 3 feet of the ridge and the rest is in the bottom third. Insulation cannot close the soffit. R806.3 requires at least 1 inch at the eave vent.

The county zone is Table R301.1. The Boca Raton worked example, including the vent math, is the building code page. Cardinal still installs a vented attic to R-38 and checks the depth.
