How to read a Boynton Beach attic | Cardinal

Boynton Beach does not have a Cardinal shop, and a page that invents one does not cool the house. East of I-95 the attic is an older CBS crawl under barrel tile. West of Congress the houses are newer and the attics are wider. The walk-in is the Delray Beach shop, 955 S Congress Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33445. Call (561) 654-7698.

Quotes are prepared by Russell Y, a building scientist who is BPI certified and certified to perform blower door testing. The test number is reported only when the test is run. This is how the attic is read. It is not a bid.

East of I-95 is the short attic

33435 is the older side. Barrel tile, a vented ceiling, and a hatch that leaks. A few inches of fill are doing almost nothing once the roof deck is hot. Settled fiberglass is about R-2.2 per inch. Four inches is about R-9. That is not R-30, and it is not an excuse to sell R-49. Palm Beach County is climate zone 1A. The 2023 Florida ceiling floor, Table R402.1.2, is R-30. The install is R-38.

From a bare ceiling, R-38 of new fiberglass is about 15 inches at about R-2.5 per inch. Over 4 inches of dry fill, the new layer is about 11 to 12 inches. The hatch on this side is often tight. Say so when you call. The day is a crawl, not a walk across a truss. Section R806.3 still wants a 1-inch space at the soffit. A short eave is easy to bury.

West of Congress is the wide attic

33437, 33472, and 33473 are the newer band. Aberdeen, the Canyon communities, Valencia Reserve, and Valencia Cove. The original fill was often installed to the code floor and has settled. If it is dry, the job is the same seal and the same R-38. The attic is just bigger, so the bag count is higher. Measure at the hatch and again near the outside wall. A pile at the opening and a thin eave is not an average.

A clubhouse, a mid-rise, and any unit with no scuttle are not this job. A single-family house or a villa with a vented ceiling over the rooms is. There is no Boynton pin in Aberdeen or in Valencia, and this page does not add a street there. The crew comes from 955 S Congress Ave in Delray Beach. Boca Raton, 4263 NW 1st Ave, is the other walk-in, same phone, farther south.

What stays and what comes out

Dry batts stay and are topped. They still count at the settled R-value, not at the label from the year the house was built. Wet, matted, or moldy fill comes out. Droppings and nests come out. Blowing over them holds the mess against the ceiling. A pest company gets the animals out. We do not claim that license. Removal is its own price. Sanitizing the bare deck is a second price. The blow is a third.

Cellulose is about R-3.6 per inch and heavier. It goes on a ceiling that can carry it. An older plaster lid on the east side often should not. Fiberglass is the usual top-up over fiberglass. A non-IC can needs clearance or a listed cover before either product touches it. A bath fan that ends in the attic is a duct problem, not a bag problem.

A planning range for about 1,800 square feet with about 4 inches of settled fiberglass, brought to R-38 in new blown fiberglass, is about $2,100 to $3,350. A small east-side house is less attic. A Valencia house is more. Foam on a bonus room is a separate line, and only if the vents over that roof are closed. The range is not a bid.

Who checks the number

Russell Y writes the quote after the attic is seen, or from the depths and the photos you can actually stand behind. Ask to see the BPI card. A blower door is not included unless he says it is, and then the gauge has to be read. Depth markers, at least one every 300 square feet, facing the hatch, are how you check the finished blow. The soffit should still be open.

Quality Business Awards listed Cardinal Insulation as Best Insulation Contractor in Boca Raton, Florida, for 2026. That listing is Boca. It is not a Boynton license and it is not a second address. The Boynton page is https://cardinalinsulation.com/boynton-beach. Measured against the Florida code

The attic numbers, not a brochure

The 2023 Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation, Table R402.1.2 sets a climate zone 1 ceiling at R-30 and a climate zone 2 ceiling at R-38. Cardinal installs R-38 and checks the inches. A Florida page that lists R-49 to R-60, or R-3.2 to R-3.8 per inch for both fiberglass and cellulose, is using a different book. Table R402.4.1.1 says air-permeable insulation shall not be used as the air seal.

Quotes are prepared by Russell Y, a building scientist, BPI certified, and certified to perform blower door testing. When the door is run, the result is air changes per hour at 50 pascals, the method in R402.4.1.2. That section limits new houses in climate zones 1 and 2 to 7 ACH50. An insulation job on an existing house is not automatically that test. We report the number only when we measured it.

Loose fill does not stop air. The holes are sealed first. Two inches of closed-cell foam is an air-seal coat, not a finished attic. We do not quote a dollar amount off the power bill. Ducts in a vented attic stay in the heat. The shop for the Boca listing is 4263 NW 1st Ave.
